My role as a client-centered counselor, is creating a warm, nonjudgmental and caring environment in which clients can safely explore their lives and relationships. The two basic tenants of my counseling are (1) a strong belief of the inherent wisdom and goodness in all people and (2) a realization that it is often the healthiest people who come to counseling to improve their lives. From these premises, I guide clients into accessing their wisdom to gain insight and clarity on what they are seeking at this moment. Once we have clarity on the desired outcome, we jointly establish goals for counseling and work toward achieving these goals. This can translate into brief solution-oriented counseling or into longer, more in-depth self-awareness and growth.
My counseling experience comes from working in a wide range of different counseling environments from a nonprofit agency with many court-mandated clients and DCFS foster children and families, to supervising graduate level counseling interns, to working in a middle school with adolescents, to working in a private practice with couples, individuals and families.
These different settings have given me the opportunity of seeing many clients dealing with issues ranging from anxiety, grief, loss, depression, PTSD, abuse, self-esteem, stress, trauma, communication, intimacy and couples counseling.
